The carpets and kilims of the Baluch
are a small window
to a world of wonder.
Woven and knotted
by wandering herders
under the open sky
with their soft and silky wool
they are beautiful and timeless values.

On the Steppes of Central Asia*

Kirghiz Kellai 394 x 182 cm
Flyer --> Expo November <-- Flyer
Between Oxus and Jaxartes - Amu Darja and Syr Darja – lie steppes, oases and deserts.
Boundlessly, nomads – Uzbeks, Turkmen and Kirghiz - stride across this wide and barren lebensraum.
They trade with each other along a network of the Silkroads.
Steppe cultures develop and express themselves in knotted carpets and kilims like flowers in the desert.
From this vast area I show selected peasant and village rugs and flatweaves from Uzbekistan, Turkestan and Kirghizstan.
