The Uzbeks – Civilised Nation on the Silk Road

to view the Photogallery Uzbek please click here

For centuries, the fascinating, textile-saturated cultures between the Oxus and the Syr-Darya have radiated right into the occident.

In the transit area between China and the Levant flourished cities like Bukhara and Samarqand. They allowed a continuous exchange of goods for people of many religions, languages and cultures as well as the nomads of the steppe.

From wool and silk works of art were produced beaming with the whole gamut of colours.

Uzbek-Asmalyk, 90x58 cm

Oriental carpets, nomadic kilims, tent bags, saddle cloths, bands, embroideries etc. of wool or silk, old and antique, used or mint, Turkmen and Uzbek silver jewellery. Anything from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Turkestan and Khorasan; from Persia and Anatolia.

Decorative Carpets in the Orient

In Paotou and the surrounding province to the north of the Great Wall of China, in the old area of the Mongols, typical "blue-in-blue" or blue-beige carpets used to be knotted. Usually they were of rather small dimensions but here it is a large-seized picture rug dating to the Ch'ing-Dynasty.
